...POLISH!!
I found this Mayones Setius used in a local music store right as I had begun selling my PRS. I picked it up and spent about an hour with it. I'd only ever played a Regius from them before, I remember thinking highly of it.
Funny thing about this axe is that it shares a LOT of characteristics with my PRS Cu24, but it's just different enough that it fit the bill for me in a much nicer way. I played it for about an hour and a half in the shop before putting it on hold. It didn't take me very long to determine that this gave me exactly what I wasn't getting out of the PRS. The PRS was a very, very nice guitar but this is just as nice and an overall better fit for my needs and my style.
I especially like the neck - 5-ply mahogany/maple with a rosewood fretboard and a very thin satin finish. It's a little thinner and a tad wider at the nut than the PRS neck was. The heel resembles an Ibanez AANJ - very nice feel to it. I love the clean look of no inlay as well.
The recessed TOM bridge feels nice and solid, and the controls are already my preferred setup. I was surprised to find that the neck and the bridge are both Bareknuckles! The website says that these guitars can be ordered with Duncans, Dimarzios, or EMGs so this was an interesting surprise. However, there's no model numbers or names on them other than the standard BKP - Handwound in the UK engraving on the baseplate. The pickups are 4-con and the bridge one looks as if it may have had black screws at some point. I'll have to take some DC readings and make some sound samples to determine what these might be. They sound great though! Did these ever some stock with BKPs at any point?
So... how exactly do I pronounce "Mayones". I've been saying "may-OH-nez", is that correct?
I'll have to get some better pics of this tomorrow in daylight, especially of the neck and the back.
