Impressive NGD! There's a J-Custom in a shop in town I sometimes visit, like yours except two buckers, and around $6k. What pups are in it?
Ibanez should do a bit of work on the UV line, the black one (although nice) has been the only one out for yonks (limited edition swirl not withstanding); but, I guess, it reflects the market - people aren't so heavily into 7s anymore, and if they get one, they don't necessarily want to fork out for a UV.

Thanks! Whoa, $6k for the J-Custom? I only paid just a little more than half of that. The RG has Dimarzio's... Tone Zone in the bridge, True Velvet in the middle and Air Norton in the neck.
I know the TZ gets flamed around these parts, but what a KILLER pickup! It may not be the cleanest pup out there, but does it ROCK. Amazing harmonics, fast response, huge chunky rhythm and man does it growl. I also love the boosted midrange.
The Universe has the stock Dimarzio Blaze pickups. Those are probably the best high output 7-string pickup I've ever heard. Clear, crisp, articulate and no low end flabbiness. For once, it breaks my theory that basswood always sound like shizzz. Sick overdriven tone.

I almost went for the floral JEM... shredding guitar man... but the J Custom was just as good, but rarer in Canada than the JEM. So I went for it.
