Nickel cover not soldered=Screaming feedback??

Quick question guys....
I just had a nickel covered pickup in a guitar (bridge position) that was feeding back (only in high gain settings) on the Bogner. The pickup "reads" exaclty where it should, 12.7k, but after I removed it, I noticed that the cover is just snug over top of the pickup... not soldered.
Could this cause vibrations that would turn into uncontrollable feedback. It's not that "nice" feedback, I'm talking horrendous crappy high pitched feedback that will not stop.

Thanx for any help!

Yes, absolutely!

The cover has a capacitance value which is "seen" by the pickup's output. As the cover is free to vibrate, this capacitance fluctuates microscopically, effectively acting as a microphone.

The disconnected cover will also be an inefficient screen which may actually intesify inductive noise.

Solder it to the baseplate to ensure it is screening the coils properly then have it vaccuum waxed to stabilise it.

Wow!
Thanx...
I was thinking of removing the damn cover as it's zebra underneath and would match the other pickup perfectly...
No??
