I was back in my old college studio the other day and was amazed to see that they had kept my old A-Level music project on the HD recorder from like 2 years ago. I had my laptop with me and decided to transfer to that, 1/2 an hour later i went home and started some rough mixing.

Bear in mind that i actually played every instrument including drums, which i cant play at the best of times. But the best part is how i recorded it.

I used someones Pod to record the guitars while using the original track to play along with, then recorded the bass parts the same way, and then to do the drums i used some basic mics and had a big stage monitor to my right blasting out the guitar parts so i could play along with it, barely staying in time in some places.

After all that i thought it turned out alright.
Comments on the mixing aswell please.

It's not bad at all man. The tone fits good and you can hear evrything clearly.

Yeah, the take i did at college was absolutely rubbish, so i didn't put it in.
I might put it in later on, see how they sound.

Actually i will, i'll update when its done.

What i forgot to mention, which is actually quite important is that i dumped the original guitar parts i did and overdubed them on my computer at home.

The guitar i used was my Ibanez RG470, modded to the point where it wouldn't resemble a stock one (except body & neck). Which has a Duncan Distortion Bridge Pup, lowered roughly 5mm to take the brittle ceramic sounding edge of it and reduce the drive a bit, but with the tone control taken out to keep the natural high end. An original Floyd Rose (floating). Sounds an absolute dream compared to the old one i had on before.

Overall the sound is a very clear Van Halen type sound, with no muddy low end, which i absolutely hate in a guitar (and amps).

The last trick i used was in the mixing stage. Where i used a very special plugin to get POD recorded tones to sound a little more analog and authentic, and this was an Antares Microphone Modeler. I used the Neuman U87 model at close proximity and really gave it a more live feel.
