NILPHSD!!!

Looky what I stumbled-upon while bored at a meeting this morning... DOH!!!

Splawn QuickRod halfstack for... wait for it... EIGHT HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS!!! (As you can clearly see.)

I was browsing a "local" music stores used-gear section on their web site and lucked-into this. I've done business with them since the mid-1980s and they are reputable. So I called up there and asked "what's the story on the Splawn?". The owner answered and said that a customer had traded it in on an acoustic and that it looked to be pretty much new. I'm thinking "WTF???". So I gave him my credit card info and I'll probably be heading-up on Saturday to pick it up (they're 120 miles away). EIGHT HUNDRED BUCKS??? R U kidding me??? Talk about New INSANELY Low-Priced Half Stack Day!!!

Good call on whipping out the credit card. The next person with a job would have grabbed that! As a matter of fact, have him charge the whole price on the card, so it's a done deal.

You gotta wonder if the store owner even researched the price. The cab alone is probably more than $800 new.

I know man. I kept rereading the ad to make sure that i wasn't seeing things. And that's why I asked the owner what the story was right off the bat. I really don't think he knows what he has there. I was tempted to drive over there and pick it up this afternoon, but we're in middle of a late-winter snowstorm up here in MT and there's an 8,000' pass between us that tends to get dicey in the snow. So I think I'm going to have to have faith that it'll be there when I go to get it on Saturday. Dang... I want to go get it before it turns into a pumkin!!! :bigthumb:

Re: NILPHSD!!!

...or before the store owner remembers how to Google...

ZACTLY what I'm worried about!!! But... he did send me a receipt after I gave him my CC info... so if they're interested in continuing to be as reputable as they always have been... it'll be waiting for me in pristine condition when I get there in a day or three.

Re: NILPHSD!!!

Btw... the original ad listed "both for $800, or $400 each". That's just CRAZY! $400 for a mint-looking Quickrod??? I have to keep pinching myself here...

Re: NILPHSD!!!

^ you have absolutely nothing to be concerned about. You have fulfilled a business contract ; "offer/acceptance/consideration( money)". There is no legal way he can back out now.
I mean, sure, there might be a loophole on the businesses part that the merchandise wasn't picked up that same day, becasue unless you saved youer emails detailing the agreement on when the unit was top be piocked up.. but comon'..thats even absurd that a legitimate business would do somthing like that-wrere not talking some huge amount of money here.
In short, take a deep breath, relax, and pick the unit up whenever you have a chance.

Re: NILPHSD!!!

I wonder what the story on the price is, since the shop is definitely making a profit on that $800.

Did the guy who sold it to them look like this?

Very true. And at the worst, if for some reason I were to show-up on Saturday and no amp was to be found... I could dispute my CC charges and let them handle it. I really don't think that this store would do that to me though. It'd be the first time they've screwed me since 1986!

The owner said that it was a trade-in on an acoustic. They are a Gibson Montana dealer (the Gibson MT factory is just about TWO MILES away). So maybe they just had a big margin to play with on that. But as the poster mentioned above... WHY wouldn't the owner take the time to google this thing and come-up with a figure that would sell quick, but net him the most cash in a reasonable time? It's just weird. And hopefully... at the end of it all this "weird dream" will just be an awesome one. :bigthumb:

Re: NILPHSD!!!

I doubt you'll have any problems. Paul's a great guy (everyone who works at MV is), as I'm sure you know. I've done a TON of business there over the years as well. While we don't see good deals regularly up here, the good deals we do see tend to be really really good deals.

Congrats!

I agree. It seems too good to be true, but my dealings with Paul have always been great. I reminded him that I used to do business with his dad (Fred) way back in the 80s when the Villa was much smaller than it is now and down Main a ways. Very cool that you knew who I was taking about! :-)

Re: NILPHSD!!!

I got some bad news for you. I called and offered them a thousand plus shipping and they said they'd cancel your payment and sell it to me. Sorry bout that.
I had to call practically every music store in Montana!
Anyway, in the future, you should probably not disclose your business until you have the product in hand.
Thanks though for letting me know about it, I'll let you know how it sounds when it arrives... and I'll even send you a 50 dollar finders fee so there's no hard feelings.

Amp is paid-for. Receipt is printed and in-hand. ;-)

I've met Fred a few times, but I didn't really start shopping there until after Paul had pretty much taken over completely. I've only ever had good experiences there, they've treated me very well. There was a time a few years ago when I could have said that about 75% of my rig came from there, but it's probably down under 50% at this point. Living in Missoula makes shopping there a bit more difficult. I wish we had a shop half that good up here.
