Do it yourself or have it done?
have it done --
Dawn at Nakedbodyguitars did an outstanding job on the Tele we built for Seymour from what I understand
The 2 places that Jeff named are the only 2 places I know of that do non relic nitro finishes...but be warned neither are cheep!

Yup. Are you going solid color, sunburst, candy, metallic? A solid color body in nitro will run you (estimated only) approx $325-350. Sunburst or special color $400 or a little more. Nitro on a neck probably $175-225...depending on what you want.
i'm looking for black-red-yellow burst -- i want to recreate the pre-cbs i had in high school and sold for $225. in 1971........ now that i'm a middle-aged lawyer, i can stretch a little on the cost... in fact i'd buy the whole thing built from from callaham but there's a two+ year waiting list
I hear ya...those Callaham guitars look amazing, but I don't have that kind of patience either.
I'd not hesitate to have either Nakedbody or RS do a finish for me. If I had my choice, it would be Dawn at Nakedbody. She does fantastic work, but being a one man (woman) show, the rate of work can be slow. I haven't had anything done by RS, but hear nothing but great things about them.
Are you building the guitar from scratch, or do you have something that you want to get refin'd?
Go for a body and neck from USACG, then get all the other parts from Callaham...I would maybe skip the guard plate and pickup in favor of Duncans...but there ios nothin g wrong with the Fralins Lindy makes for Callaham. Then get Dawn to do the finish...it will take a little time as Down is a one person operation and Tommy at USACG is pretty backed up thee days but you'll have a killer guitar when you're done!
:smokin: good thought -- i could get a wiring harness from TFN Technologies (that's tom nerkowski - good guy - does a "hot tele mod" harness that lets you use the neck and bridge pups together) -- i just don't want to do the wiring -- which duncans do you like for blues?
Yup. Either the SD Antiquity Surfers or the SSL-1's for that period of strat...to be true to form. I prefer the APS for blues in the neck and middle, but I like a slightly warmer sound. At any rate, it you want the best (IMO only), either set of SD Antiquities would be the bomb.
Good luck with the project. I'd like to know how it's going as you move along.
well i've run into my first snag -- dawn's so booked up she's not taking new work :crying:
