No clean cloths at hand, is kitchen roll ok to use?

Ok don't laugh at the guy who's never used lemon oil before.

I got some this week and in the instructions it says spray 1-2 pumps on clean cloth etc... but the only cloth I have is quite manky, so I don't want to use it.

So is it ok to use kitchen roll or would that damage the wood in any way?

Thanks, and no calling me a newb!! :laugh2:

i don't see why it would, but it would probably rip up a lot and possibly tear. you should really just find something like an old shirt or something that you don't want anymore and use that as a cloth.

When you get new eyeglasses, they tell you not to clean your glasses with paper towel because it can scratch glass. Glass is harder than a guitar finish and harder to scratch. So...take that for whatever it's worth. You'll probably be fine and I've used paper towel to polish guitars in a pinch...but I think an old T shirt or cotten cloth would be better. Lew

For wiping down guitars without lemon oil, try a glass microfibre cleaning cloth. It must be a specific microfibre cloth for glass. Those are the best for finishes. When it comes to using lemon oil, I use a variety of random cloths. Microfibre is always the best overall, though.

Fender sells a good size microfiber cloth for $25 or so. Or, if you'd prefer, you can go to an Auto parts store and buy the exact same cloth without the Fender logo on it for $5. Your call. :D

For similar gouging see Meguiers cleaning and polish products for cars vs. Fender (by Meguiers) cleaning and polishing products for guitar...

Buy a cheap flannel shirt. More polishing cloths than you´ll ever need :13:

Keep one in each guitar´s case, makes it easier to get into the habit of keeping them clean ;)

I use kitchen roll paper with lemon oil for my boards and find it as good (and cheap) than getting/using a flannel cloth. They don't rip up and tear as someone has mentioned. I use the ones which are fairly absorbent (Bounce is their name) and I always have a roll with my other cleaning stuff as well.
