no p/u selector switch,...possible?

This may be a silly question, but I've never heard of anyone doing it, and I didn't find enough info doing a search to satisfy me so I thought I'd ask.

Do I have to have a selector switch or can I wire my pickups directly to the volume pots?

On my michael kelly lp I normally leave the switch in the middle position and use individual volumes to control my pickup selection and blend anyway. It would be nice if i could use the switch (or another switch in said position) for something else like series out of phase probably. I also have a schecter with 1 vol 1 tone and I'd do away with the switch and add a neck volume pot if it can be done. :fingersx:

You can use just volumes. It's the same way a jazz bass works.

I posted this exact question last night...I plan to use volume controls for pickup selection.

you can also use a... oh, what're they called? They control panning and balance.

Found it! Yeah, with the answers we got I think I'm satisfied. I'll be rewiring 2 guitars this weekend. I've wanted to do this for a while but didn't think it would work and didn't think to ask.
The only switch I really want is oop and now I'll be able to do that without using pushpulls or drilling holes and I really dont like pushpulls.

I didn't know about the jazz bass.

Thanks to all....cheers :beerchug:

Re: no p/u selector switch,...possible?

I've used blend pots on a couple HHH guitars, using it for the volume control of the middle & neck PU's. There's a center detent that has both PU's on at full power, and turning it either way blends the two in varying increments, until one is at 100% and the other is off. Fast & easy.

This is a much better way for you, than trying to juggle two separate volume controls, which would be clumsy, especially playing on stage.

I didn't know they worked that way,...... now I'm intrigued....Hmmmm.

It does sound like a good idea. I really like the idea for my schecter, because then I could have 2 tone controls, or a phase switch, but on my michael kelly I'll have to rethink the whole thing... I don't know what to do there,.... maybe a kill switch (where the switch is now) and replace a volume pot with a phase switch or something.

I keep saying phase switch because it's fun to noodle around with. I've found my preference is to keep it simple. I don't care enough for coil splits and such to want to deal with the rats nest of wires. I like it clean under the hood. Partly because I can't seem to leave my pickups alone. See, I've been on a quest for a neck pickup I like and I'm determined to find it. For a long time I used a CC w/ an A2pro neck and I was pretty happy though not completely, but then, (thanks to the guys here) I stuck an A8 in my CC and fell instantly in love, but now I can't find a neck pickup I like with it. The phat cat is close but not quite "it", maybe i'll try an a8pro next.

...also, I don't play live and really have no desire to. Not now anyway. (things could change though) I hardly ever find the need to switch anything on the fly, it's all I can do to just play! :)
