No reverb??

Hi there,

I was in my local guitar shop today and had a fiddle around on a Peavey 6505 and 6505+. As astonished as I was with the sound (being a metal core guitarist), I was a tad disapointed with there being no built in effects. So I was thinking what are some good Reverb and delay pedals suited for live metal performing? :)

Re: No reverb??

Check out TC Electronic Flashback delay and Hall of Fame reverb. Great quality, plenty of options and a good price.

No reverb??

Holy grail is an excellent reverb pedal as is the line 6 Verbzilla. I have the Verbzilla and use it with an amp without reverb. It rivals any good Fender. It doesn't have the natural decay of real springs but its close and nobody is going to be able to tell when you play live

Re: No reverb??

+1. I have both of those TC Electronics pedals in my effects loop. Great versatility with both.

No reverb??

I have TC Electronics Hall of Fame reverb and Transition Delay (almost same as Flashback) through the loop of my 5150 III, and like them alot

Re: No reverb??

I'm surprised your looking for reverb for metalcore. Most dudes don't use verb for that so that the stops and breakdowns sound 'tighter'

Re: No reverb??

In the words of Celtic Amps chief builder, Scott_F: A good amp doesn't need reverb.

:D

Re: No reverb??

Well my friend has my old 6505 + and he uses a few older boss delays, you name it he owns it, and they all sound good with that amp.....we play stuff similar to metalcore when when "jam." Think Tech Death crossed with old hardcore and you'd get the jist of what we do.....ends up sounding like the bad brains trying to play Pestilence and Cryptopsy tunes.....

Re: No reverb??

These days consensus seems to be:

TC Hall of Fame - best for fans of the latest/fanciest and of course the tone print feature for you USB/Download guys
Verbzilla - best for multiple modes
Holy Grail - best for one knob simplicity on Spring or Hall

I won't hate on an old Boss RV-3 Delay/Reverb either

Can't miss with any of them.

Re: No reverb??

The best reverb on the market is the Eventide Space hands down. It smokes anything I have ever used or have heard.

Re: No reverb??

Honestly, in a band setting with gainy tones, reverb isn't going to help you. There's a reason the big high gain heads generally don't include it.

The reverb wouldn't be for breakdowns, it would be for lead and riff work. I used to add a tad on my old Line 6 which filled the sound out well like :)

Re: No reverb??

a 6505 will fill the sound out just fine when competing with drums, or any other comparable head. Upgrade your amp then see if you still need it....delay can always be fun for lead work, more suited than verb IMO

Re: No reverb??

I think the Peavey has a dual switch, so you can switch channels and turn the loop on/off.

If I'm using reverb on a head, I put the EH Holy Grail on top of the head, in the loop, set very subtle.
I can click it on or off with the amp's footswitch.

Re: No reverb??

The best reverb I've ever used for metal playing is called The Venue.

I've never found one in a store, though.
