Hi everyone I just replaced a magnet in the bridge and Im getting very little sound out of it.I'm thinking I put the magnet in backwards maybe any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: No sound after magnet swap

putting it in backward wouldn't effect the output unless you where using both pickups - and even then it would still be OK, just a little bit less and an out of phase sound. sounds like a wiring issue, IMO

Re: No sound after magnet swap

ya got a multimeter ?
set to ohms
insert cable into jack
set switch to pickup in question
touch one lead of multimeter to the tip of guitar cable
touch the other to the part of the cable just below the black ring on the cable

what u got?

oh and which pickup do you have sose we'll have a reference on the proper ohmage

Re: No sound after magnet swap

You might have yanked a wire. Did you push the magnet from the side with no leads into the side where the leads are? If yes, you may pulled a coil lead out of the coil. If it's a finish lead, it's easily fixed. If it's a start lead, the coil is dead and would have to be rewound.

I pushed the new magnet from the side with no wires.

I've found that going the other way works better. You may encounter resistance from the magnet sticking in place, so the force when it breaks free is unknown. Also, with the screwdriver, you can make sure it's underneath the wires before you apply enough pressure to break the wires.

To be sure of what's wrong, though, I think you need to follow edwuhld's advice and starting measuring resistance. That will narrow it down to the specific wire or wires that may be broken. Or it may tell us that the pickup is fine and something else is the problem.

Re: No sound after magnet swap

yeah you may have damaged the wires that connect the coils - I always push the magnet out with a small screw driver - pushing from the side that has the wires, so when the magnet comes out it doesn't hurt anything.

I pushed it out with a screwdriver on the side where the wires were just like the directions told me.

+1. I thought everybody did it this way.
