is it possible to wire a guitar so that theres NO controls at all? is there any tone lost when the signal goes through pots?

Re: no volume or tone controls?

yes it is possible ... and yes .. you lose a "little" heat going thru the pots. thats what my ears tell me anyway..

Re: no volume or tone controls?

Just wire the p-up to the jack!

Re: no volume or tone controls?

this severely limits the tonal range of the guitar though...

Re: no volume or tone controls?

ive never done it, but i would imagine it would sound like crap

The Nikki Sixx model Gibson Blackbird basses are wired like this, with only an on/off switch. I don't know what it would sound like in a guitar, but I'm guessing it would be very bright. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

Just out of curiosity, why do want a guitar with no controls?

If you're looking to build a guitar whose top is uncluttered by knobs, I might suggest putting in a circuit with fixed resistors instead of pots that mimics a dimed volume and tone control. That way you'd have the look you desire while maintaining a more traditional tonality.
