NOBD - Ibanez SRX500 à la Wimbish

Bought this pre-owned Ibanez SRX500 over a month ago. Could not complete the pickup and control modifications until the kill switch volume pot arrived.

From top to bottom, the controls are;
Shadow SH124-25 Kill Pot master volume
EMG-ABC Balance control (old, soldered type)
SD/Basslines STC-2S-BO Bass EQ
SD/Basslines STC-2S-BO Treble EQ

Pickups are EMG-35P4 and -35J. I am happy with the -J. Might change the -P4 for another -35J.

The NOS old-type (soldered connections) balance pot turned out to be for the best. It made the integration of parts from three manufacturers far easier than the modern modular solderless items would have been.

The inspiration for this project was the Ibanez DWB Doug Wimbish signature bass. This should give a rough idea of how it sounds.

For any case sniffers out there, silver Tolex = Rickenbacker, tan Tolex = Fender AVRI. The poor Ibanez currently lives in a generic gigbag.

Nice flame and color. I could rock that...

A friend has the rather plainer looking SRX350. Those are sen whereas the 500 is basswood with a waffur theen flame veneer. (It might not even be maple. Sycamore can look very similar.) To my ears, the 500 has a smoother overall sound. It happily rocks, slaps, taps and "drums" à la John Entwistle.
