Noisy Pearly Gates?

I just had a set of Pearly Gates installed in a Les Paul copy.... and they are quite noisy when used singly, and only quiet when both pickups are on. I don't think they are tapped, but they are rather "spanky". Did my tech mess up?

By the way - I had all the Asian guts removed from the circuit, and had a Switchcraft jack and pickup selector installed, with a 500K CTS volume pot - no tones in the circuit.

Sounds like something is not right–my experience with Pearly Gates never involved noise.

Re: Noisy Pearly Gates?

If your tech isn't familiar with the Duncan wire color codes, he may have mixed them up. If you are not wired up for coil splitting it should go like this:

Red and White soldered together and taped off
Green and bare wire together soldered to ground
Black is hot, so to hot input on volume pot.

If you post a pic we can probably tell straight away.

This is my guess. The PGs are not noisy at all, unless you are in a particularly noisy room with lots of neon, transformers, dimmer switches, or florescent lights.

I assume you looked at my pic, and there is NO red OR white.... So I guess you're not correct.

First of all, there's no need to be an ass. I WAS trying to help you.

Secondly, the only two wiring options I've ever seen SD offer is vintage braided or the standard 5 wire red, white, green, bare, black. So I don't know what you have there, but it's certainly not vintage braided.

Good luck figuring it out.
