Noob to SD - Need help with SC Neck pup!

Looking to replace the stock SD STK-S1 in the neck of my Jackson DK2 cuz its a bit too under powered compared to the JB in the bridge.

I would like something wth full humbucking. I love the lead tone of Petrucci, Satriani, Vinny Moore and Paul Gilbert.

Wouldn't mind staying with SD but if a better alternative is there with Dimarzio then so be it.

Thanks guys - eagerly awaiting your advice as I go search the forums one more time.

Based on the tone you're going for the Air Norton S would be a good choice as both Petrucci and Satriani have used the full size version in the neck.

welcome to the forum!!

i never new satch used an air norton.

i would say something like the hot rails or jb jr would give you the tones you are looking for.

Thanks - I thought the JB Jr. was a bridge pup but would it sound good with a JB in the bridge?

Re: Noob to SD - Need help with SC Neck pup!

they make bridge and neck/middle models which are lower output and brighter to compensate for the different tonal spectrum near the neck

i'm wrong, it was just petrucci...satch used paf pro and paf joe which are a little brighter.

Re: Noob to SD - Need help with SC Neck pup!

Just drop a Cool Rails in for a near perfect match in output and compression (it isn't as "cool" as the tone chart makes it look). It sings leads the best of any single coil sized humbucker design I have tried. I think it has a tone that would make Joe, John, Vinny, and Paul jealous.

Re: Noob to SD - Need help with SC Neck pup!

I have kind of narrowed it down to the Cool Rails or the Hot Rails? Which one would be a better match with the JB? Is output the only difference?

lol...i just noticed that i posted the exact same thread...but i was thorn between the lil '59 and hot rails coz of the good reviews on the jb hum bridge and the 59 hum neck...now i guess i got cool rails in my shot list too...

I haven't tried the Cool Rails, but the Hot Rails is one fabulous lead pickup for the neck position!
