Not bonding with the JB, what should i try next?

Hello guys!
I have a Schecter C-1 Classic and i think i'm just not a JB guy after all! I've heard it in another guitar before and was kinda expecting this alrdy.
The guitar is a maple neckthru with mahogany sides and a maple top, so it's much too bright.
I'm looking for a Pickup that has a good split clean tone and more of a distortion growl to it with a smoother top end, though still clear enough as this guitar is tuned to CGCFAD. I was thinking of the SH-6 or maybe one of the variations of the customs?

Distortion or Full Shred to retain clarity. The Custom may do it, but it does tend to muddy a little when downtuned. I had my LP at drop d, and a half step down and it lost the bite there usually is in standard tuning.

YES! i love mine in the exact same guitar your using! buy an oversized ceramic and swap magnets. DO IT!

If the JB is too bright in your axe then the sh-6 will present the same problem. I bet a full shred would suit you well since you droptune.

If the JB is out of the exchange period, try an A2 magnet in it. The guitar in my avatar is a hard maple body with a maple neck and the A2 JB in it sounds great.

not completely true. jb hurts while DD is nice.

For what its worth, my friend has a Schecter Omen 6, and we put the Mayhem set in it. (Dual Distortions.) Its my favorite axe to play when I go his place. Sweet cleans, but loves some pedal action too, and it splits great.

I think the Full Shred would be great. Very tight and clear, and it is capable of some nice clean tones too. I like the JB for some things, but it's too loose on the lows. I'd imagine that the Distortion would start getting muddy as well, tuned down as you are.

A Distortion is probably the way to go. I loved the SH-6 set I had in a drop tuned Les Paul. If you are playing through the Mark IV in your signature, try dropping the presence and treble down and giving the mids a push up. Also with Mesa amps if you back the pre level down and push the post volume just a little they get a little more throat and a little less toppy tone.

If the Mark IVs are simul-class amps you owe it to yourself to try EL34s in the simul tube sockets. EL34s add a little squish and a nice change in the mids that a lot of players really dig. They help out with the bright top end as well.

actually no. i mostly play drop d and i just tried drop c and that didn't mud up.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Seems i should be looking for a covered SH-6 in that case!

While the DD is still a bright pup, it is a little more balanced than the JB, so it still retains clarity, but doesn't sound as thin as a JB in the same setup.
