Not digging my HRDX III anymore...may go back to a Blues jr.

I got my HRDX III about a year ago when we got a beast of a drummer and my Blues Jr, didn't cut it onstage anymore. I really like it for country stuff...you know the typical fender clean...but I have gotten irritated with the harsh high end and tubby low end. I put a Cannabis Rex in a few weeks ago...sounds better, but still doesn't have the tone I am looking for.

Does anyone prefer a Jr. over a HRDX? I guess the Jr. has more complex mids and sweeter highs...maybe a tad more Tweed sounding.....I guess I will a/b them and see what occurs.

Hmmm....a Jr. with a Greenback sounds interesting...........

sounds like you are a candidate for a deluxe reverb. Better than both - especially if you put your cannabis rex in it!

Yeah I prefer the Blues Junior for lower volume applications. However, a friend of mine has a modded HRD III with an Eminence RWB (which I recommended :) ) and it has a much smoother overall sound. It's a pretty loud amp so it needs a bit of volume to start sounding sweet. The Blues Jr is just sweeter but doesn't stay together all that great when you crank it up. For recording and band practice, it's awesome, but I've been considering selling mine to get a modded HRD like his. The little EL84's can only do so much.

I'd look into a Blues Deluxe. A few months ago I traded my Blues Jr for a Blues Deluxe, and I actually prefer it. It has a little more texture behind the tone. The HRD sounds harsher to my ears, and I just can't bond with it.

Sounds to me like you're really missing your Blue Angel lol! After having one, I can't imagine why anyone would want to sell theirs.

Your best move would probably have been to run dual Blues Jr's.

i ran a blues jr with a greenback for years and loved it. not pedals, just guitar-cord-amp, with all the knobs cranked but bass and reverb. cut thru great and didnt take up a ton of sonic space
