Not getting hum-cancelling - help

Hi All

I have a yamaha Pacifica with the following pups.

Bridge-SD '59
Middle-SD Cool Rails
Neck-SD Cool rails

I currently have it wired as follows through a yamaha 5 way superswitch.

1 - Neck CR only
2 - Neck + Middle CR (parallel)
3 - Middle CR only
4 - Middle CR + split from '59 (parallel)
5 - '59 only.

Aside from noticing of how brighter the 59 is than the CR's, I've got hum on the pos 4 setting. Im using the "south" coil of the '59 for the split.

If I move the split to the "north" coil of the '59 will I get hum cancelling on the 4th position?

Thanks

Mike

The trouble is, if you split the 59, it won't be hum-cancelling regardless of which coil you use. The CR is a humbucker by itself, so its not like combining a split with a single. You might get a little better hum-cancelling if you also split the CR, but it won't be great simply because the CR and 59 coils are mismatched.

Cheers Artie

Think I'll try my alternate idea then, mixing bridge with neck.!

That should probably sound pretty good. The Strat in my sig has three CR's, and the neck/bridge combo in that does not sound good. Its the only position on that guitar that doesn't. The same mid-range punch that sounds good alone, is just too much when doubled-up. My middle CR is wired in parallel, so its a different sound and combines well with the other two, or all three together.

Let us know how that works out. I'm toying with the idea of replacing one of my CR's with another Lil 59.
