Not happy with the SH2 in my Gibson SG.

I recently took a Jazz neck and put it in my SG in the neck position. Custom SH5 in the bridge. Love the bridge, but the Jazz seems to be getting way more breakup than I was expecting from a lower output pickup. I feel like the mids are too much. I've looked at the specs and it appears the SH-1n might be more what I'm looking for, smoother cleans and possibly more headroom. Raising and lowering the Jazz hasn't helped either. So, with that in mind, how do you guys feel about the 59' neck in an SG? And how many have tried a different magnet in a Jazz neck on on SG? Let me know!

a pickup itself has no head room the issue is going to be in your amp set up. A 59 is about the same output as a jazz and to my ears might even be a touch louder. Tonally I think an A2 pro would be more what your after but it wont solve the issue of break up that you will have to sort out at your amp.

I've run a Custom/A2 Pro combo for a long time and it is fantastic. Even the middle position combining both magnets works amazing. The A2 pro is syrupy and sweet and just oozes tone and feel.

I think SG's are kind of thin and twangy sounding and I think the Duncan Jazz is kind of bright and twangy although it does have some nice bass to it as well.

Still, my favorite pickup tones from SG's would be original 60's Gibsons or two Duncan 59's.

Maybe two bridge 59's, because that would come closer to what Clapton had in his SG: two matching early 60's Gibson HB's.
