Not using effects loop?

I know some effects like chorus, flange, are best when used through an effects loop. Currently, my set up allows me to only run all my effects through the main input on my amp. Am I really missing out on anything, or do alot of other people do this too? How much improvement would I get if I run my set up through the effects loop?

I'm using: Guitar > Digitech Whammy > Boss EQ > Boss compression/sustainer > Boss chorus > Digitech Flange > Korg AX1000G > Marshall TSL602.

I use the amp's distortion.

Thanks,

Re: Not using effects loop?

It really depends on the loop. Most of the time I've found for example on a 5150, the loop runs too hot and the effect sounds like crap and drowns out the pre-amp. On my Splawn its adjustable from -4 to +16db I think, so the loop is more usable. BUT... I don't run any effects right now except an MXR Phase 90 and I unplug it after I'm done with the 1 song I use it on.

I agree with Craig. It depends on the amp. I have a Crate Vintage Club, and effects and processors sound better if I go through the effects loop. Right now, I'm using a Vox Tonelab and it sounds much better through the loop than going through the main input. It gives me the full effect of the device, which is what the effects loop is supposed to do if it's doing its job.

Personally, the only effect I like in a loop is a delay. I much prefer to run stompers like a Chorus or Phaser right in front...they sound more "natural" and less overbearing that way to me.
