NPAD - with a twist (literally)

Her Little Mojo Minion
Got a new power amp (carvin tube 100). 100 watts bridged, 50 per side stereo. EL34s. Made in 1993 I think.

Got it off reverb.com (first purchase from there) for a pretty good price.

It was packed super well, but the dude took it in bubble wrap to UPS to have them finish packing up & ship it. I think they dropped it during that process, because the corner was bent when I unpacked it all, but the box was in perfect condish. Probably not worth a claim, I'm going to try and fix it or have someone with better tools and knowledge help me. Dude paid out the arse to have it packed and shipped too, shame.

As for sound - I like it! Sounds a lot better than going through my JTM30's effects return. Seems to make me play better, if that makes any sense. I run it out to two separate cabs - an 8 ohm mesa and a 16 ohm V30. Pretty neat how it can do two separate impedances. I was thinking the volume was a bit on the low side, but it's very sensitive to how the output of the preamp is set. Turned up the jmp-1 a tad and it made a huge jump in volume. The fan is sorta loud but then I'm not used to a fan in my gear.

I still need to try two preamps at the same time in stereo with it, that should be fun. The jmp-1 and the digitech gsp 1101 on maybe the rectifier setting or 5150. Or dueling marshall sounds.

I'll post clips another time.

Bummer! Won't affect the tone, however, and it should still rack mount... that steel looks thick. You will need a serious vice grip to bend it.

Re: NPAD - with a twist (literally)

Yeah, a tech at carvin said to lightly heat it prior to bending. It's heavy as heck and with bubble wrap even more awkward to carry so I'm sure the clerk immediately dropped it after the dude paid and left. Try to prove that one though, huh.

Re: NPAD - with a twist (literally)

okay - so a found a super cool retired amp tech dude that could look at my amp. he popped the top off of it when I was in his shop, and everything looked solid on the inside:

The tubes are teslas, and after I left, he tested them on a tube tester, and they pegged it they were so strong!

He made sure the bias was set (he made one small adjustment to the trimmer on one side), blew the dust out from the inside, bent the ear back into shape, and it's good to go!

Cool amp indeed.
Wow...real Tesla 34's...!!
At some point you will have to throw some new tubes in there, and see what you think.
Hopefully there is A Bunch of hours left on those.!
What brand are the phase inverters.?

I am sure any machine shop, with a break, could straighten that rack ear for you.
Nice Find.!

Re: NPAD - with a twist (literally)

Shoot, he told me the brand but I immediately forgot, thinking it might not have big impact on the tone. I'll ask him and report back.
