Getting fed up with the clean channel of my Blackstar HT-5 mini stack - even after changing to an Eminence loudspeaker. Wanted the bite of a "blackface" Fender amplifier. Decided to give the FDR-1 pedal a try. Plug in a late Fifties style Stratocaster. Hey, presto! Instant Richard Thompson. :D

Can't say that one's registered with me before. I seem to recall a brown ("Tweed"?) version though. Would it be asking too much for a soundclip?

Quite a few videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=boss+fdr-1+fender+'65+deluxe+reverb+amp+pedal
I have both this pedal as well as the FBM-1 (Bassman that you probably are thinking of). Both nice, but I do prefer the FBM-1. Funny thing is I rarely use the FDR-1, but I coupled it in-the-loop of my Blackstar HT20H (again used infrequently) because the B* was just a bit too 'plain' for my taste.

The series consists of three pedals. The beige FBM-1, representing the Tweed Bassman. The black FDR-1, based on the "blackface" Deluxe Reverb. The brown FRV-1, '63 style standalone spring reverb.

The Catalinbread 5F6 probably renders the overdriven Tweed sound more convincingly than the FBM-1.

The FDR-1 offers the bite, the wobble and subtle reverb that you would expect.

The FRV-1 takes the simulated spring reverb to far greater depths (pun intended) with Dwell, Mix and Tone controls. The full Dick Dale splash is there if you want it. IMO, the reverb pedal lacks the dynamic influence of running the original all-valve item in front of a Fender tweed, blonde or brownface amplifier.

I've played around with those before. Very cool pedals. I tried the FBM-1 through a Peavey Bandit, on the clean channel, and cranked the drive on the FBM-1. It sounded surprisingly good. The FDR-1 has a nice texture to it with the bite. Those two with a nice clean amp can make a pretty cool setup.

I used to have a FBM-1 that I liked a lot. There were a lot of good tones running that into a big clean amp. I've toyed around with the others. I didn't spend enough time with the FDR-1 to really get a feel for it, but the FRV-1 left me feeling a bit cold, TBH.
