It's really not bad. It's quite usable for metal, and backing the distortion all the way off makes a nice tone for fingerstyle. And the paint job is just beautiful.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

I had it waaay back and sold it because of the paintjob. (reverse poser)
Was part of a used-gear swap,,,,,so no I didn't buy it in the first place. lol
Honestly it was good at what it did but then the metalzone came out which did it better IMO.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

Yesterday I ordered a battery door. Today I replaced the two existing bottom cover screws with four new matching machine screws, and I replaced the damaged battery leads. It won't sound better, but it will be more complete.

I'd forgotten how dim the LED's are on these. Most of my pedals now look like they're shining a laser pointer at you.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

American Metal, Thrash Master, and Metal Manic all have their uses....

I am a fan of the American Metal myself. Your box seems in nice shape. Rear battery door or no?

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

No battery door. Ordered one on e-Bucket. I'll probably get something from a Korg multi-effects.

American Metal is a great pedal. I used to have one, but it died. A friend's AM was the first pedal I ever played through; it made an impression on me that persists to this day. One day I will have another.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

This was a strange time for DOD/Digitech. Some of their stuff was wretched, but there were a few good things in there.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

That type of DOD can have switch issues, hope yours is working properly. Another thing is the odd 1/8 style adapter plug. Did you get the appropriate adapter? CAN you even locate one? Haven't seen one in years. Everyone just used batteries...

I think the One Spot adapters (and other ones like it) can be bought with an adapter pack that includes the 1/8" adapter. I have no idea why DOD originally went with that type, except to sell adapters.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

I have a couple of One Spot adapters, and I can make power cables if I need to.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

kill 'em all was that pedal straight into the board. same with peace sells. and among the living.

and of all colors to associate with thrash....PINK??

I thought the one I had was pretty wretched, especially for the types of tones that I generally use.

Re: NPD -- DOD Thrash Master!

That's a blast from the past! I bought one of these new in the summer of 1994, along with an FX-58 Metal Maniac. They definitely served their purpose and responded very well when coupled to an FX-40 Eq pedal to dial it in more.
If/when you get tired of this holler at your boy.

nah ah...no way...seriously?

Doesn't look like it. According to LPB's link, the FX59 wasn't released until 1990, and it's predecessor wasn't available until 1986. Outside of time travel, that pretty much rules out Kill 'Em All. I suppose Peace Sells... is possible, but I was always under the impression that Dave's sound on that record is a JCM800 2203 (possibly boosted) while Chris used a Rockman into a JCM 800.
