NPD: It Throbs!

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
You may know that I have a Tremolo fetish. I have Tremolo's from Diaz, Duncan, Dunlop, Guyatone, and Danelectro. Just something about the swampy, swirly undulating pulse of sound that just does it for me!

Anyway - I have finally added a much sought after (and now getting rare) Term to the stable. BEHOLD! A minty Boss Keely-modded tremolo!

They upgraded a number of the internals on this, but most important is the dual concentric depth knob that allows a volume boost as well! You could use it for a lead boost - but mostly it is awesome for making sure your tremulated sound doesn't drop out of the mix.

I'm always on the lookout for the right Fulltone Supa-Trem, Nobels, or a Red Witch or Empress....but for now, I have added another classic!

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

I love tremolo pedals, too, and even stock that’s a good one.

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

I read the title and when my phone preloaded the image all I saw was the color scheme. I thought for sure I was looking at a Swolen Pickle.

So I take it the mod for the concentric portion is just taking the R9 resistor that controls volume and replacing it with a pot?

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

I personally can't justify the basic TR-2. The volume drop is too much IMO, and the cost too high for what it is. Even used this things go for 50+ bucks. Uncalled for!!!

But - Keeley modded....oh yeah!

Boss fixed the volume drop in roughly 2007; I have the new version on my board and it's unity gain. I think I paid right around $50 for it used.

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

$50 seems fair for one of those used without the volume issue.

Really? Oh $h!t. I have been hating for a decade for no reason!!!!! I have passed on a ton of 30-something dollar TR-2s. Oops??!?!?!?!! Live and learn. That really explains a lot :smack:

Eff it. I have a Keeley pedal. I win!!!!

[When did the memo on this come out??????]

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

I've never owned a tremolo pedal, likely because I've never had an application for it. But I love Boss pedals and everyone should own at least one, even if only for the buffer.

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

I have a tremoverb,,,,,,,,but I'm guessing the pedal does cooler stuff, or just more of it. I only engage it for clean ambient stuff anyways.
Nice thing about the pedal is it transfers to other amps. I don't even have a true chorus pedal so that would probably be first.
I do really like that helicopter thing some of them do.

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

Had my TR-2 updated by Robert Keeley a few years ago, loved the result! Now I have the TR-2 head-to-head against my Wampler Latitude, both great tremolo pedals!

Re: NPD: It Throbs!

Joey Landreth uses a slow trem pedal dead last on his chain, even after delay and reverbs, to add a warm pulsating effect to the whole signal.

Sounds very dramatic for chords. I love modulations put to good use. Since I bought my Line6 M13 I've become a sucker for Leslie, Tremolo, Univibe, Ring Modulators and others. Anything but chorus! Even Flanger has found a place from time to time for me.

Congrats Bob! Looks like a piece to keep around for years. What tones are you aiming for with it?

I use my Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter II the most, but I love trem pedals and have three or four. I even miss the VHT I used to have.

Nothing specific - but really looking for a spot that needs the little extra gain bump when it needs it!
