NPD: Meaner is a LOT Better!

So back last fall I completed Elizabeth. She plays awesome, looks great, but her sound was kinda “meh.”

I knew why too... it was because of the Ibanez ACH humbuckers I had in her which had come stock on Rachel, my 2005 AS-83. They had been “meh” in her too so I had swapped in P-Rails to make the guitar come alive. I was trying to save a little money and I had hoped that they might be better in a solid-body guitar... but they weren’t.

So I ordered some pickups I’ve been wanting to try for a while... GFS Mean 90s. I have their Dream 90s in another build (Mary Ann) and really like them. Both are P-90s in a humbucker case, but the Dream 90s sound more like a single-coil on steroids (very glassy) while the Mean 90s are supposed to be their “true” P-90.

Wow!

I tell you what... it took me about 6 weeks to get around to finally putting them in today and I’m kicking myself for not doing it the minute I got them! These things are loud and full of that typical fun P-90 character... every note makes you wanna just start jamming! I’m thinking that Elizabeth is ready to move up to one of my favorite guitars to play!

Does she go by Lizzy now? Seems more fiesty of a name. Haha!
Nice job looks great! How are you liking it?

Lol... she’s actually named after my daughter, who goes by “Bess.” I think I’m the only person in the world who calls her “Elizabeth.” And for the record, I think that Mrs BriGuy would probably choke anyone who called her “Lizzy!” [emoji33][emoji23]

I’ve actually really made a connection with this guitar, almost like it plays itself with very little effort on my part, but the pickups were so bland that it’s been in the second string. I’ve been pretty partial to P-90s since the first time I played some, and these pickups really deliver. It’s quite the tone machine now... can’t wait to try her out at volume!
