NPD Moen Ulite UL-CP compressor Rocks!

So in the past few months I have tried a Joyo dynamic comp, an MXR Super Comp, and a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone. The Joyo and MXR were both too noisy and/or thin and the Tone was nice but just didn't have enough volume boost for me. I was looking for a volume & sustain boost for solos with my crunchy ss amp. I finally gave up and tried a few overdrives until I found one that worked for me after I modded it.
Then I happened to see a really good price on a Moen Ulite compressor on fleaBay and bid on a whim. Of course I won it.

I did not have super-high hopes but I had read that the Moen has a lot of volume, which is what I really wanted and the only reason I bid on it in the first place.

Well...holy $#!+ this thing has a LOT of volume!!

It doesn't do the chickin pickin thing like the MXR and it doesn't do the forever sustain of the Pigtronix but what it DOES do is give me a massive volume boost with nice sustain and an optional eq. The best part is that it is a LOT less noisy than the Joyo and the MXR. About the same as my modded TS-style pedal with the gain way down and volume way up, which is to say not bad at all. I really hate that wooshing noise a lot of gain pedals produce and comps seem to really crank out. This one doesn't add much at all.

If you play clean you might not like it because the compression adds grit to the sound at anything past noon, even with volume at unity, but for my purposes it works great. I have tried three boost pedals and three overdrives with my gear and this sucker has way more volume gain on tap than any of them. I can't believe it works this well for me for $30. Happy happy happy.
