NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

First of all...it's built like a TANK!!!

I kid you not...i know people throw that work around...but this thing really is probably the smallest but heaviest pedal on my board! Simple looking but i really dig the creamy color scheme!!!

I played it by itself first to get a feel of the pedal and how it interacts with my guitar and amp. I know what they mean now when people have bragged about it's dynamics and note clarity...even under some pretty heavy saturation/distortion! Very nice!!!

The tone control has a really nice sweep that can get you down and dirty or add some top end jangle!

It can cover Marsally sounds and can even cop some overdriven Fender sounds as well!

I was really impressed with the amount of gain on tap (and this is a knock on V4), more than i'll ever need!

Next, i started adding pedals to the mix and running through some songs i usually play, with special focus on Revelation Song because it's the one song i definitely plan on doing Sunday morning.

I added in my Pitchblack (of course), my Red Repeat, Classic Chorus, and at first my Soul Vibe and switched to the middle position on my PT and practiced a nice soft melodic/ambient intro to the song. I dialed back the volume on the OCD to around 10oclock, the tone to 1oclock and the drive at about 9oclock to give it just i touch of dirt with my guitars volume knob rolled back and enough there to give when i dig in with my pick attack as the song builds! It worked like a champ!!! I really liked how it responded to my picking and enhanced the overall sound of my rig. I ended up switching out the Vibe for my Classic Flange though and everything sounded even better!!!

I also messed around with the order of the pedals quite a bit to see where each one sounded and reacted with each other the best...and found a really, really good chain of Guitar-Pitchblack-Classic Flange-OCD-Classic Chorus-Red Repeat!

I'm looking forward to getting it all set up Saturday night for practice and tweaking it for the sound there! Can't wait till my name comes up for my Timmy to see how well they play together...but right now i am definitely an OCD fan!!!

oh yeah...almost forgot!

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!! :headbang:

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

Haha, let me know how it works out.. I'll not be playing my rig until Christmas, so perhaps I should have something extra special to look forward to. ;)

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

Congrats, Mike ........ I'm glad you're digging it!

Mine is a V2 and I never turn it off. My KOT came in Monday and the KOT and OCD play so well together a new, bigger board is in the works to accomodate the new friends!

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

No annoying impedance troubles??
If not then it is indeed cool;)

i didn't notice anything unusual? i'm running my Chorus and Delay after it an the Flanger and Pitchblack before it??!

That's good to hear...i'm hoping the Timmy and OCD play as well together!!!?

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

I really love my v4 OCD too. Seems like every time I experiment with the settings I find a new tone I didn't realize it had before. Very organic sounding, and dynamic with guitar's volume.

How come some boutique pedals seem to have this. Is it because they aren't buffered therefore the low impedance causes trouble. I love my Pinnacle II but the sound changes when buffered pedals are after it. I don't mind the change but it is there and I'm assuming it is to do with impedence.

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

This is my favorite demo clip for the OCD... not solely because the OCD sounds great in it. At the beginning, before the OCD is switched on, you hear the sound of a 1962 LesPaul/SG w/ PAF's into a 1968 Marshall Plexi 50 watt (volume on "6") into a 1968 straight cab with 20 watt pre-rola Celestions. Just the sound of a plexi being pushed a bit with paf's-- gives me goose bumps! Love that sound. When the OCD kicks in, that's nice too.

After hitting the link below, select the OCD from the list, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Riff #2" clip.

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

i'll probably have to pass...i'm gonna get a couple of harmonicas next and i have a Timmy ordered?!

thanks for the offer though!

Re: NPD...OCD in the rig!!!

I like the v3 I'm playing with-lots of fun and works great with a Timmy. I actually like it for low volume home stuff where I can't always crank it. But in a live jam, it really delivers as well. I've not found a ton of pedals that can sound nice at hi and low volumes. I keep the gain down on the Lo setting and dial the dirt with my guitar vol knob.

Nice choice.
