NPD: TC Electronic Mojo Mojo...

watch where you point that sabre
Not really a fan of drive pedals and prefer to plug straight into my amps w/ a bit of reverb &/or delay in the loop at the most. Mostly I'm not crazy about the way the TS types especially cut out all your bass. Anyway, my local Amazon had these on sale a few days ago & I know Paul Gilbert uses one all the time w/ everything, so I decided to pick one up & try it just out of curiousity.

Got to say I was very pleasantly surprised by what it does...tone stays round and fat, there's still all the bottom end in there ...but it adds some harmonic mojo & a bit more hair/dirt to your tone. Sounds incredible for solo's and makes rhythm punchier & livelier as well.

It's a really pleasant sounding & pretty transparent pedal for the most part that just enhances what's already there. It actually sounds great with the drive (not just the level) on the pedal turned up a fair bit as well. It's got two modes and a toggle to switch between them and they both sound subtly different but great I'm not sure what they are though, I should look it up..

It worked great & sounded great with all the amps I've tried it with so far.. (my 15 W Goldea Rex, Bugera 333XL, AMT Stonehead, Laboga Classic, Orange CR120 & Laney Ironheart)

Always wanted to try this pedal. I like TS pedals, but I prefer them with active EQ so I can add the bass back in. So if this solves the 'missing bass' issue, I am all in.

Yeah, definitely no reduction in bass,,,and no pronounced mid hump either..so it's a different beast altogether. The two toggle positions are just a mid-shift of some sort but barely noticeable.Ones supposedly leaner sounding than the other for humbuckers vs. single coils but honestly it's tough to hear much difference..They both sound pretty sweet.

I have both the OG Mojo Mojo and the Paul Gilbert version, has just a lil more mojo tonite. Didnt care for it through my Marshall, need to try it with my H&K. Kinda forgot about them unil this poppd up.

I think they originally designed the Mojo Mojo with the idea of making it the antithesis of the TS as far as overdrives go.

I like it. It's a cool pedal, but for me, it's more of an amp-in-the-box kinda pedal pedal than a boost. It's cool that you can drop the bass and treble if you want that TS mid hump, but it never really does the TS sound because the way it clips is not the same as the TS. No clean/dirty signal blend.

That being said, I consider it sort of along the lines of an OCD or a Blues Driver in that it's a full-range amp-like overdrive. I think that's what it does best. But that's JMO.

I love TC Electronic pedals overall.

Pulled one of the two Mojos I have and at least my amps, the pedal is better at a stand alone overdrive than boosting an already gainy amp.

When driving a gainy amp, the lowend flubs out almost making the low E string useless, where as using along the low E doesnt sound like a vibrating turd.

It can be crisp but not a tight pedal esp in he low end. To me its a good low-mid gain pedal used stand alone into a clean channel.

Probably best used to push an amp on the edge of breakup.

ive yet to hear a vibrating turd i like, so maybe this isnt for me :D

I've yet to hear a vibrating turd. Period. :laugh2:

Considering it does'nt break the bank, sounds pretty sweet (imo) and has it's own thing going. I think it's a cool pedal to just have around...

Personally I prefer it in front of an amp adding mojo to solo's...it makes them a bit rounder & sweeter..and the feel is really great too. Does'nt change or interfere with your amp's tone either :bigthumb:

If Im using it with any gain, the pedal darkens up, but if I use it with as clean as my Marshall or H&K will go, it sounds pretty good, esp for the money. I wonder if it just doesn't like the T75s in the cab.

Its just another flavor of drive on my board to play with , esp if Im just messing around and working specifically on something.
