My Barber Gain Changer SR pedal arrived yesterday morning and I’ve got to say that I’m very impressed. The low gain side of it works extremely well with single coil equipped guitars. In this case, a Strat, Tele and a Les Paul with P90’s. I’ve always had trouble with setting the gain for my Strat. It was either too much gain or not quite enough. This pedal made it so incredibly easy to dial in the sound I had been looking for.

For the high gain side of the pedal, well, it’s got you covered as well. The main reason for buying the pedal was for low gain reasons. But, I can easily see the use of it in high gain situations. I do have a specific pedal for high gain and that’s not going to change too much. The Gain Changer does give that pedal a run for its money without a doubt.

The Gain Changer offers up clarity and sustain like no other pedal that I’ve tried before. And this applies to both low and high gain settings. The Gain Changer has taken over where my Timmy used to be. The Timmy isn’t a bad pedal it’s just that I wanted something much more versatile and the Gain Changer delivers.

I’m sure most of you know about this pedal and have read the reviews, played or even own one. I’m one of the late ones joining the Barber party. In my case, better late than never. For those of you that haven’t tried this pedal and are looking to get a new overdrive give this pedal some serious consideration. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all.

If you're able, or get a chance, try this pedal. In my opinion, the pedal is that good that it warrants getting another one. One dedicated for low gain and the other for a little higher gain.

i love my old barber ltd, and ive played the older game changers. they are great! which timmy do you have?

I've got the V2 version. It's okay for what it was designed to do. But, the Gain Changer SR is on a whole different level. I would love to see a two button version of this pedal so that you're able to switch between the low gain and high gain on the fly. David Barber, give this some serious thought!

is there a big volume jump when switching?

timmy does its thing really well, its my favorite od into a bf fender reverb amp, but there are lots of other great toys out there too

Volume jump with the Gain Changer? No. I'm running it always on for my low gain with the volume knob on the guitar turned down. When it comes to a solo/lead I dime the volume knob. Old school acrobatics. I lost my Fred Astaire maneuvers a long time ago.

i meant when switching between the low and high gain modes on the pedal when its on. related to if you could just add a footswitch to toggle between low and high gain modes without adjusting controls

Sorry about that! Sometimes I don't explain myself clearly. This is one of those times! The only way you can switch between the two gains stages is to bend down and flip the toggle switch. I'd like see this pedal with two standard foot switches built into the pedal so you're able to switch between the two gain stages without having to do any unnecessary maneuvers!

right, i get that. and i agree that would be a cool option. my question is, when flipping that switch from high gain to low gain, is there a volume difference? or do you need to adjust the tone knob?

There's very little to no volume drop. Just the level of the gain. For the tone knob, it depends on which gain and eq mode you're in. For example, in the LTD SR setting, a lower tone (10 o"clock) setting is what they suggest and it works very well. It's right at the heart of what I consider a creamy tone. They suggest a higher tone setting (2-3o'clock) for the LTD mode. But, that's just their suggestion. For me, it's usable, but too bright. The Gain Changer ranks second to my Ethos Overdrive in versatility. And that's saying a lot!

This is an edit. A correction. Yes,it does have a volume jump when you switch from the low gain setting to the med/high gain. My apologies for the misinformation.

I hadn't seen the double version yet. Very cool to have a high gain side. I know the single pedal has a great rep, and a dual one will be a lot more convenient for those of us who can't always kneel down to tweak pedals in the middle of playing.

There's no double version. I wish there was one available. The only work around at this time is to purchase another pedal. I'm sure David Barber has been approached about it. I might send him an email to get his take on it. It would be interesting to hear his thoughts on the idea.

Ah, too bad. Thanks for the clarification.
