NPUD Thorn Pasadena Classic

I haven't put it through its paces entirely. I put it in my single pickup Alder hardtail Strat. I have never tried a Thorn humbucker before. It seems from the first run through to be very clear and good under gain. I am going to have to play with it a bit more, but it is definitely not a pickup one encounters every day.

Re: NPUD Thorn Pasadena Classic

It is a very, very clear pickup, medium output and very detailed. Absolutely one of the clearest humbuckers I have ever played. It is a keeper, especially for the price I snagged it for on ebay.

Re: NPUD Thorn Pasadena Classic

I am the previous owner, glad you like it and as you mentioned it was from the first batch. I am sure you are aware it is no longer being made. I sold it not because it wasn't a good pickup, it was not meeting my needs or the tone I was chasing for my Thorn guitar. I ended up with a 78 that MJ wound of me which will stay in the guitar. We are both winners in this exchange which is a good thing.

The pickup came from a "superstrat" from the 68 series based on the Shelby Mustangs with H-S-S. The other two pickups are Lollars. What guitar did you put the Pasedena in and what type of music are you playing? Pedals and amp? I found the Pasadena to be great with all of my pedals, particularly with a Klon Clone, Fulltone 18 volt Deja Vibe, a Deco Delay and my low powered tweed twin. I sold it because I needed something to match a Friedman Small Box with channel 2 converted to Brown Eye specs.

It takes some experimentation to get the right tone however once I find it the search is over, I don't keep looking. I have one more historic Les Paul with Lollar High Powers which I am going to change. I have another set of Imperials and the seller neglected to mention these were HP. Once again a great pickup just not what I was looking for in a Beatles type guitar. Bought a set of Joe B's which I absolutely love for another historic and will talk to MJ about getting something close to that to go in the red George Harrison 57.

I am vey happy the Pasadena is working out for you. It is a unique hard to find model and an excellent tool to have in your collection.

Re: NPUD Thorn Pasadena Classic

I have found myself to be gravitating to playing it through my rack. (Frenzel 800 preamp into mesa 20/20) Later this week a new preamp arrives from Phaez. I can see how it might be better at lower gain tones, though I found no deficiencies when I played through my high gain amps. It also sounded great through my pedals.

I have mostly been playing punk and traditional celtic musicwith it since getting it installed. (Yes, I am aware that sounds mildly crazy)
