New Pickup Day!
Yesterday my Don Mare 0038 showed up.
Here's how it went:
Guitar it was going in:
Opened up:
Figured I'd shield the cavity since I was already under there. Had just enough tape laying around to do the bridge cavity.
New pickup in and ready to be put back together!
Originally, this guitar came stock with a Fender AV'62 bridge pickup. I found it really lacking in bass and too bright. I ended up putting in a CS Nocaster pickup. It was a lot better, but for whatever reason this guitar is naturally very bright PLUS I found the output of the Nocaster to be a fair bit lower than the WRHB in the neck position. I went with the 0038 because I have experience with it as I have another in my 52 Tele. It's fairly tamed at the high end with pushed mids which seems to have worked out very well for this guitar being naturally bright. It's the perfect balance now. Plus the output is pretty much even with the neck HB. This is a rock guitar and I wanted a ballsy pickup in the bridge position - Don's worked wonders! Brings a smile to my face when I plug in.
