I call it a new pedal week as it's taken a full week to wrap my head around this insane lil' echorec pedal.
I was intrigued by the multihead thing and the preamp. And while now I 'get it', at first I was a bit put off by some of the quirks of this thing.
The pedal is designed to go in front of your amp, this way the preamp basically enhances your tone like bacon does a meal. This is awesome, but I play a single channel hot rodded JCM800 style amp. To get the full benefits I have to run delays in my loop. This is where the EC's preamp can be a problem.
Luckily... I built my amp at the Egnater Seminar! I contacted Bruce and confirmed what parts to change and I lowered my effects loop send and raised the return level. I matched the send level as best I could with my guitar's direct signal by conecting my multimeter to the tip sleeve of a cable and playing into it... Then did the same measuring the volts coming from the send jack of my loop.
Now, even in the loop, the preamp of the EC sweetens the tone and I get the awesome multi-head swirly delays even when chugging out heavy riffs.
This delay makes my other delays sound so dry and flat... And the fact that I would rather break out my iron and mod my amp to accomodate rather than find a pedal with less 'personality' says something for this thing!
Special shout out to erksin for answering my many and I'm sure annoying questions! Next I'm gonna try the Heliotrope or Perseus!
