NUBD - Used Epi Thunderbird Bass

Bought it cheap. Needed new strings, a fresh setup, and one little chip in the finish to repair. It plays great now, and the chip looks almost new at this point. The sound... not epic. Lack definition in the upper mids, low output. Not sure I want to put more in it.

I dig these, fun to play, but always thought the sound was kind of thuddy. What do you do if you don't like the sound, sell it on?

Thuddy and dark is usually the sound I think of when I see a Thunderbird. But I'm sure there is a variety of pickups that can fix that!

Congrats! Those basses are killer-looking!

Great looking. Extremely neck heavy.

It's kinda funny that the Thunderbird basses are kinda dull and thumpy...more so than most basses. The Firebird guitars are bright and crisp...more so than most guitars. (Really comes down to Gibson's pickup choices I suppose).

Pickup choices and mahogany neck and body, I suppose. But mostly the mudbuckers.

And yes, extremely neck heavy.

Killer-looking basses, though.

low output isnt something ive seen from the gibson versions, surprised the epi is kinda wimpy

I adjusted the pickups some, helped the tone out a bit. Guess it doesn't matter because one of my clients wants it (it matches his Gibson Firebird Elite - sort of).
