you guys may already know this, but...
i met this guy Dave Martone, and he taught me this. hopefully i explain it right lol
dial in a clean or fairly clean tone. start with the volume all the way down either on the pot in your guitar, or a stand alone volume pedal. hammer onto a note, and rock the volume on and off at a moderate-to-fast speed. one on and off per hammer-on. just play some random notes to get it down, and then get creative
i prefer to use a pedal instead of the ax's pot, for ease of use, but its your call.
