OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

My OCD came in today and it's more than I expected. Very transparant to about 3oclock on the gain then it colors the tone just a slight bit. Plenty of gain on tap, but not for nu metal tones. HP/LP switch really adds two distinctly different ranges of tone. Hi compresses and thickens the tone while the Lo looses it up a bit making it even more articulate. The controls are very sensitive and interactive. It didn't take long to dial in something that I liked, in fact I loved all of the settings. I LOVE this pedal!!!! It makes a great sounding amp sound even bigger and better, simple as that.

Yeah I use that thing a ton
It sounds like a Marshall
It truly sounds like a Marshall through a Marshall lol

Re: OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

LOL, in the dictionary under redundant it says see redundant.......

Re: OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

Yea, that pedal has a very british vibe to it. It sounds most like a Vox through my Gibson GA5. Try using it as a treble booster, because it works like that. The tone knob only affects the upper ranges, and when you turn th tone to 10, it distorts the upper mids and treble end, just like a treble booster. And it actually sounds quite musical put this way.

My favorite settings are:
HP Selected - Volume at 10 oclock, Gain at 10 oclock, Tone at 2 oclock
LP Selected - Volume at 10 oclock, Gain at 2 oclock, Tone at 10 oclock

Re: OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

Thanks for the settings, I'll try them tonight. Anyone else have favorite settings on their OCD?

The other night I used mine through my Valvetronix head and I Liked the LP settings better than the HP...I had received the pedal about an hour before a band practice, plugged into it,and went with it....I Liked what I heard for the most part, but didn't "really"get the time needed to learn how to dial it in yet? I had read through the manual, but I need to move the knobs and get comfy with the settings first...

I wasn't blown away by it yet,but like stated,I need to spend more time with mine..

Re: OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

The OCD is more of a booster than an overdrive pedal. It takes your tone, flies it across the pond, and blasts it out of the speaker, British flags proudly waving! I put it in front of my Vox AD15VT and the sounds were okay at best. That's because the amp is hybrid and doesn't experience many sonic benefits when the volume is taken way up. I played the OCD through a SS amp, garbage... So it pretty much simulates a cranked Plexi or AC30 when you are using it through a tube amp because it gives you some nice mid range emphasis and british style crunch. When put with a SS amp, it tries to get the tones out of a cranked SS amp, which aren't that great. But I dailed in a good tone with my hybrid Vox. I used the LP setting like you said and put the tone up to about 3 oclock, because those hybrid Voxes are dark by nature, and I kept the volume at 9 and the drive at about 1 oclock. IT all depends on your guitar and how you set up the Vox. Good luck with it.

Really? I can use it as a standalone distortion pedal if I really need to. :smokin: I usually use it as an overdrive pedal but there's more than enough gain on tap to put it well out of the "booster" category.

I don't use alot of gain anyway, but I felt the OCD had plenty of gain even on the LP setting played through a clean setting on my amp...

I think I'm going to find I Like the OCD better through my already incredible sounding Marshall amp?

Just about everything I've stuck in front of my VTH Vox amp has sounded really good...The OCD didn't seem to give me that impression at first, but I still need to spend more time with the pedal...Normally it takes me about 2 minutes to dial up a good(sometimes great)tone from playing for over 30 years through alot of gear,amps,etc..and as a gigging musician...I can plug into an amp and tell very quickly whether it's got what it takes for my styles or not also and the OCD will be the same scenario, plus if it sucks,I'll unload it LOL...Not tooting my own horn, but I do possess really good ears...:laugh2:

Re: OCD....The hype is TRUE!!!

John, I know you've only played with it for a day or two, but I'm curious to know what you think, after you open it up and see the circuit. I'm wondering if there's a value in there you'd change to make it more to your liking? Are you going to experiment with it? This pedal is so popular right now, that any mod you could do to enhance it would be of interest to a lot of people. Plus, it'd be your opportunity to give Fuller a little jab in the ribs for being rude to you! LOL

Well keep in mind Mike Fuller's covered the circuit in grey goo so it may be difficult to get in there.

I don't think this pedal it one you'd wanna mod, either. It's just too cool the way it is!

Nice 11,000 posts, btw. ;)

I was told that Fuller goops the circuit with black epoxy to keep guys like myself outta there! :laugh2:

I was also hoping that it wouldn't require further tweaking because of Fulltone's already boutique pedal status....If I end up not liking it,I'll unload it for what I payed...I sold his DP1 pretty quick and it was a terrible pedal...

I Only bought this one because the price was pretty decent...I have some negative feelings right now towards Fuller and it might be biasing me in a negative way right now,but I plan on being fair about my evals of it..If it's got tone I'll keep it.....If not.....Sold...:laugh2:

Mine's got grey goop on it... i wonder if the color of the goo affects the tone?

:fingersx:

Maybe? :laugh2: Haven't been inside of mine? Might be grey?

Let me know if you plan on it:)
Then you must tell me what value the ceramic cap that is located closest to the input has, if it is a 47uf then it is an slightly older Plexi, if it is a 331 instead, then it is one of the newer ones, it really just improves on the feel more than the actual sound:)
And do not mess too much with the LED's, they are not all that common;)
