OD/Dist/Fuzz for AC30

I love the cleans on my AC30, and I play clean or fairly clean 50-70% of the time. However, it's nice with some extra dirt, saturation, sustain, overdrive or whatever sometimes. So, I'll go pedal shopping :smokin: I don't need hi-gain sounds, and I guess my needs are low to medium overdrive. The Brilliant channel does not give me this sound at a pleasant volume (it's a bit loud for cranking on a daily basis).

Anyways, I wan't to keep the sound voxy, so spare me for Marshall and Fender tones.

Someone recommended me a clean boost, but I don't know whether it will be enough to overdrive a cleanish amp or not. So far, I've tried a Boss OD-3 and a TS clone, and those certainly didn't do it for me.

Any suggestions?

Try a Boss BD-2 with mild to med. gain settings . . . it's a pedal that's very true to the sound of your amp/guitar, so you shouldn't have too many weird tonal surprises . . .

I took a look around on the net after posting, and saw that many AC30 users like the Carl Martin Hot drive´n boost MKIII. Any comments? Rid?

Exotic RC, AC or BB will work
also, the Crowther Hotcake sounds great in front of any class a amp, I use one - with the gain at zero I get a good clean boost and with the gain turned up the front end of the amp pretty hard and overdrives sweetly.

why not get an attenuator like a hot plate?

I could, but I don't like the price or the tone sacrifice, even though the Weber sounds tempting.

About the clean boost, will it give me medium overdrive even at an OK volume? Or will it just add a little gain?

When I had my AC-30 I used to love overdriving the amp with my Tube Screamer TS-9 or TS-808. Made my Tele sound like a vilolin! Had to be turned up pretty loud though...couldn't get that tone at low volumes. But with the Ac-30 turned up, I thought it was the best lead tone I've ever had. Lew

Check with Rid here at the forum. He works for Carl Martin and they are about to come out with a Vox style OD pedal! He has a few clips of the pedal already posted, sounds great and I'll be getting one as soon as the are available.

You make me wish that I didn't sold my Tele... :blackeye:

However, the TS thingy is obviously not working for me....

Re: OD/Dist/Fuzz for AC30

Yeah one of my buddies got the very first we ever made, the prototype actually, no different from the normal run of MK3's, but still the first one;)
I was quite surprised just how good it sounded on his ancient Vox AC-30, just connected in that "that is it" manner, so that was a good experience to see that the pedal worked well in that setup.
Alot of our customers likes that pedal.
The new drive will use the same layout as the Plexitone, but no crunch or lead channels, two identical drives in one, works like presets instead, and a clean booster at the end of the chain for that extra some wants.
Will get back to that one later, I am off to work now:)
