Ohms and Confusion

So, I have a vintage JCM800 that has two speaker outputs, and a dial for 4, 8, and 16 ohms. Until just recently, I have only used on 4x12 cab with an 8 ohm rating. I now have two matching 4x12 cabs, both of which are rated at 8 ohms. So if I use both outputs on the back of my amp, each going into an 8 ohm cab, do I keep the amp set at 8 ohms, or switch it to 4 ohms?

Re: Ohms and Confusion

4 Ohms for that.

Basically take your lowest cab impedance and divide by two (or ideally like in your case have 2 matching cabs)

what year is your 800? And what model? (Just curious as I own a couple myself)

Re: Ohms and Confusion

Thanks! It's a 50w 2205 with the boost channel. Inspection sticker inside says 1981.

Re: Ohms and Confusion

Nice, did you have to deal with the channel bleed issue or did yours not have it? Also, you can confirm date by serial number, 81 would start with 'N' (not saying your inspection sticker is wrong by any means).

Also...what cabs are you running with it? Throw us some pics if you got em!

Re: Ohms and Confusion

Ok, so now that you made me second guess myself, turns out I was wrong when I read the inspection sticker

Inspected December 18, 1984. Been wrong about that for almost ten years now, lol.

I'm running a pair of Randall Jaguar cabs. The cabs are at the band cave, but I'll post some pics this weekend when we set up for our show. Here's some pics of the head.
