hahahah
I clicked on this wondering too
hahahaha
I'm Olin, the one in question. No one very known, but thanks for the compliment all the same.
ummmm Slave (which is a song on my myspace
http://www.myspace.com/london77music - no I am not plugging) - very easy
Marshall SLP run between 5 - 8 with a Hot Plate on -8. SM57 mic slight off axis with Vintage 30s. The big trick (that does not HAVE to be done) depending on how you set up your Marshall is using a Variac at between 98 - 105. That's that spongy feel.
Record the part, then double track it, playing it near identical. I used an LP with APH1 and a PRS with Pearly Gates. I actually think good pups are really important to pair with the guitar and Marshall.
There is some overdubs of a slightly dirty Budda Super drive 30 (Phatman speakers) doing the high parts and arpeggios low mixed in the chorus. I post EQ'd the Budda of course, so that it was a little middier and more AM sounding. That was mic'd with an E609 into a Universal pre.
The "solo" was when I owned a Rivera. I did a test run of the solo idea thru V30s with the Rivera and a Rode NTK that was across the room. I liked this take, though its not much of a solo. I EQ'd out the boomy tones and that's what you have. Amazingly, I liked the otne of the V30sover the G12H for these, though either would have worked, as would GBs.
Then get a gnarly 80s rock drummer and stir until edible.
That was the only track I didn't use a Shiva on. Didn't own it at the time. Now I am gonna do a ton of funk and R&B using a Princeton Reverb that Christian (Guy who invented) suggested I buy. I am in LOVE with this amp.
