Ok how about this question, people using a 59n and JB and you are in the middle

Re: Ok how about this question, people using a 59n and JB and you are in the middle

I am having a serious issue with this combination, as you could see from my recent thread, with the neck dominating the middle position.

Looking forward to people's views too!

Yeah I was looking at your wiring, it seems very much the straight forward diagram from Duncan for 2 hum, 2 tone P/P, 2 vol, 3way. I am just running 2 vol and wired it in 'independent' volume control were the input is the middle lug and the output is an outer lug, thought that might be an issue but seems like that isn't it either since we have the same issue with 2 different volume pot wire methods. Anyhow I 'think' it is the difference in resistance between to two pups is the issue but it would be very nice if someone, surely someone has this combination and is playing it at this very moment!, and could verify yes my pickups blend in the middle position and I get 3 distinct sounds/tones or no with full volume its the 59 all the way. I know my wiring is fine and my pups were new. I can get them to blend a tiny bit if I turn do the neck, turn it too far now it's all JB, it's almost like an on/off. What taper are your volume pots?

You'd have to balance out the pickups' heights. The EQ for the 59 (scooped) and JB (upper mids!) are different, as are the output levels, but it should work just fine. I've tried this very combo in a few LPs. The JB was a little bit louder, but that was the point.

Re: Ok how about this question, people using a 59n and JB and you are in the middle

Thank You Very Much Mincer! Lowered the 59 a little more then 1/8" and I could hear the JB coming through. I probably had the 59 a hair louder then the JB because of it's cleanliness so there was no way the JB was going to make it into the mix. I guess the necks going to naturally dominate because of its location.

I am going to get a A4 for the neck and a A2 and a UOA5 for the JB and see which I prefer. I was thinking about rewiring the guitar with linear taper volume PP pots, right now it's two 500k audio taper CTS both as volumes. I was either going to do two volumes again and make one either coil split or parallel/series and have the other PP phase. Or have one as a tone with an audio taper and a 50's style hookup. Either one of these seem more practical/usable then the other? Right now I can split the buckers coils separately and have two volumes no tone and I am not sure that was a great move. Thanks!
