OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

I have a choice between the Line 6 POD 2.0, the Guitar Port Rifftracker, and the Toneport UX2, and they all cost about the same at the shop I've been loking at... I'm thinking that for the money the Toneport UX2 is probably the most bang for the buck..I've heard much good about the POD XT from Jeff and others, but I don't have the money and I think it's a bit much to use on it when I only wanna do some amateur stuff for fun on my computer. What do you say? Should I get the Toneport UX2 out of those? I'm guessing it would be cool later to also have the possibilities of recording vocals and bass with the Toneport UX2.

Chime in fellas :)

Also, I know there's recording software etc. included with the Toneport UX2, are all the cables I need for plugging it into the computer also with it?

Anyone?? I think I'm pretty set on trying this thing, I just need to know if everything I need is included with it. It really sounds like alot of fun, and something that could teach me quite a bit about recording, mixing etc.

Yup they provide all the cables, all you need to do is plug your guitar in. I'm also thinking about getting that or a ux1 for recording and practicing.

I thought about the UX1 first too, but then I looked and the UX2 wasn't much more expensive, it wouldn't cost me more than a POD 2.0 would, so I might as well get the UX2, since it has more features than the UX1.

If you don't need to take it other places, definitely get the toneport.

Well the reason why I am interested in these units is because I'm interested in experimenting at home in front of my computer, not live playing with it or anything :) It's just for learning and having fun with some amateur recording, mixing etc.. If I were to play live I have my Marshall and Laney, but I wouldn't expect live gigs in the nearest future though, maybe a couple of years down the road, who knows, or it might never happen. :)

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

The toneport basically is an xt except with the simulation happening on the computer instead of hardware isn't it? If that's the case it's perfect for you. Should be relatively easy to get decent results and in your price range. Go for it!

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

Thanks for all your help, I'll definately look into it now :)

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

You can also record your amps.. you dont have to live on the software. If you just get a POD, thats all you get. With the toneport you can plug mics into it to record anything you want. Correct? That should be a no-brainer.

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

if all you want to do is record on a computer, go with the toneport. id say get the ux2, just because the extra inputs and outputs are worth the extra $. make sure you run the line 6 monkey on your computer to be sure you have all the computer nosense needed to support the toneport and gearbox. the toneport does come with a DEMO version of ableton live recording software, but because its a DEMO you can only do a little bit of recording with it. you will need to buy a full version of some recording software if you want to really start recording.

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

I want a TonePort in a bad way:13: Only problem is my computer is to old/slow to run it. I use a Guitarport now and I'm very Impressed with it. :D

Re: OK, I have these recording possibilities, what to choose?

I have ran the Monkey software and it doesn't seem like there should be any problem, if everything goes as planned I'm probably ordering the UX2 today.. And I know about the Ableton software, but there's loads of recording software you can download if the demo version isn't enough for me, so that's good.
