I've been looking for an SSL-5 and someone has offered me a L handed one for a good price. I'd like to use it in a right habded guitar. Can I just flip it over and make it work?

Thanks!

Yes you should be able to flip the pickup around...The wires come out on each side bobbin end and I think the pickup's bottom allows it to be mounted either way..I use the Custom SSL-5s also and they're great pickups!

On a pickup without a lip (which iirc applies to the SSL-5) it should work just fine.

There´s no difference in wind or magnet polarity with L and R hand single coils, only a difference in pole stagger order on those that have staggered poles.

Makes you wonder why the SD catalogue lists a left-handed polepiece stagger pattern option on the SSL-5? :naughty: Is there an additional charge for this? :deal:

Re: OK to flip a L handed pickup to make it a rightey?

^^ upcharge: AFAIK no.

Also, not every lefty is enterprising enough to get the idea to flip it around. So you flip it at the factory and call it a lefty, avoids confusion and lowers the rate of returns. I think the main difference is where the wires exit on the baseplate, but I haven`t had one close up in a few years.

There may however be some other technical difference that eludes me at this time...

Thanks guys! Not sure if this question showed up twice... so apologies if it did. Wasn't sure if it had actually posted from my bberry.

you'll need a left-handed screwdriver to fit it
