just as a single, definitive guitar, where do you guys reckon the demon is best at home? i'm thinking a style of guitar, a fretboard wood, and maybe a complimentary pickup..

Basically it'd be great in a darker guitar....Basswood or Mahogany bodied...It's too toppy in poplar, ash, and alder.....It's basically a pickup that I feel is too toppy...If you replace all of the allen head screws with std nickel screws,it's alot better, but it's still a pretty bright pickup..

Here's a SD I currently have in one of my strats....Notice the change to all screws...I'm going to pull this and go back to the Dimarzio Fred which I Like alot more!

To me the ideal wood would be Mahogany. And a big piece too like a LP or Explorer. A Rosewood fretboard is alot warmer than maple or ebony. A a '59 or PG neck.

It's awesome in my SG X by itself and Split. There's no neck pup routed, so the resonance is nice and there's alot more bass in that SG compared to my Gothic SG.

Hmm used one in a maplebodied superstrat once, sounded very good, open without the bad piercing topend.
Hmm am I the only to just like this pickup as it is??
I always use it with a 250k pot.

I have a 250K pot with mine....It's ok,but it's not one of Duncan's best in my opinion.....It's just ok though! It's a bright sucker in most guitars I've tryed it in...

Well in my wolfgang the sound was meaty and had a good substance to it, but I don't mind bright as it is:D
I love bite, it is no worse than using a singlecoil in the bridge to me:)

It's the way that pickup is EQd that gets on my nerves really...Probably a cool pickup, but alot of guys hate it? Guess that's why there's so many choices for us...I'll soon have another one to sell if you want it....:laugh2:

Maybe I should try the A3 magnet in it again like I did a few years ago first?

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

Tried mine with both an A2 and a ceramic...ouch;)
Liked it best with the loose A2, but had to use that magnet for something else.
I am looking for a Zebra Demon:D

Mine is just boring dual black bobbin with it's stock A5 magnet in it...I did have an A3 in it,but went back to A5 for some reason? Maybe it wasn't tight enough or it removed even more of the lows? Bad move on this pickup(Removing lows)...

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

The only thing I found the Demon good for was Oasis songs. With a raspy half distorted signal it could do Oasis perfect. Otherwise it let me down bigtime.

It made a reasoneable good hybrid with some 59 coil though:D
How did it compare to the other hybrids you've made (specifically the 59/Custom, if you've done one)?

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

I'm kind of wanting to tri one in a semi-hollow body. I bet it would be great paired with a Jazz, Phat Cat, or a mini 'bucker.

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

Well never made a cc and 59 hybrid, my now sold cc was tremspaced, my 59 is not.
Actually the hybrid I like the best is a 59screwcoil and a jb slug with an A2 magnet.

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

well considering it was designed for a person that like his guitars to be maple bodied, maple necked, rosewood fretboards, and floating floyds, w/ a 500k pot.... I'd say that should just about cover your question at hand.

And yes it peforms very well in this setup!

Agreed! I've played the Lynch M-1 Tigetr, which is all maple and it sounds awesome.

I've had mine in a poplar bodied strat with a rosewood board and I liked it there. Lots of punch and clarity and tone overall, but I found it didn't hang onto notes like some other do.

I'm thinking it would make an awesome neck pup along with my Custom 10K PAF... :)

or I may put it in my Rhoads in the neck slot...

Re: OK, what would the demon be GOOD at?

It would be good,
I've even had 14 k bridges sound good in Strats
