Old Takamine question...

A buddy of mine runs a music shop. He recently got a 79-80' Takamine acoustic in on trade. It's the "lawsuit" model that Martin claimed was ripping them off.......which it obviously was. lol

Anyway, the guitar is in great shape considering its age. It has a few dings in the neck and on the body, but nothing major. It plays great and sounds just as good as the 3k Martin sitting a few feet away from it.

You guys have any input on these guitars? I can't seem to find much info. I'm really considering snapping it up.

Re: Old Takamine question...

I actually have one. It really is a great guitar. Says Takamine across the headstock just like a Martin, square headstock. I've owned 5 martins (d-35, D-28, D-18V, 2 D15's) This is on their level ALL the way. I found mine in a pawnshop in Lexington Ky for...$106 and tax!!! Really nice guitars

Man, wish it was only $106! He's asking $599 with case. Not sure what I'll do. hmm....

Re: Old Takamine question...

I have a 81 or 82 Takamine classical and a Takamine 12-string from some time in the 1980ties, forget whereabout. Very good guitars, true companions.

The one thing I don't like is that the EN-12C is one of those non-gloss models. Nothing to polish... Whatamisupposedto? Actually play the thing? Geezzz...

Re: Old Takamine question...

I've had several. There's actually a little trick to date 'em. Look on the brace just above the sound hole. They're great for the money, but unfortunately the secrets gotten out about 'em, so they're starting to shoot up in price. They offered several models that were copies of Martins, and one that was a Guild knockoff. If they can be had for less than 300, I'm all over it.

Buy it..... Its a really good guitar for the money! How much are they asking for it?

I have one that is similar but not the Lawsuit model. The Lawsuit one had a headstock that was near identical to the Martins. Mine is different.... it has a little detente at the peak of the headstock. I actually loaned it toi a friend who I work with (indefinitely) . I found this guitar in the trash. It was a wreck yet it only needed a G string tuning machine, a good cleaning and a setup. I've had it about a10 years now and it plays and sounds great!
