OLP upgrading

I don't know if you guys remember this or not, but a while back I was talking about upgrading my OLP Benji Madden with a new pickup and a toggle switch coil-split.

Well, I can now say that it was a success!

I don't have pics to show (yet), but I (me & friend), wired in a DPDT 3-way toggle switch that enables humbucker/single coil mode.

It works, and it works pretty well!

Just wanted to express my joy.:D

Re: OLP upgrading

That is cool! :)

What pickup did you use for the task?

Re: OLP upgrading

I used an SD Full Shred.

I was really suprised when I heard the tone of the single-coil mode.

It's very bright, but it still has plenty of tone.

...It's a shame that its such a cheap guitar though.

I would love to have its' sound on a higher-end model.

Re: OLP upgrading

Oh Yeah.

The Full Shred is definately one of the better pickups out there.

It picks up everything you do.:kabong:

It works especially well with the palm-mutes.

Re: OLP upgrading

It's funny you mention OLP, because my last purchase was an OLP 5 string bass that was totally upgraded by the original owner.

I got so lucky....I bought an early OLP 5 string MM copy that had a Duncan Basslines MM w/active circuit. Plus, the costly installation/routing. On top of that, it's a solid ash version, not photoflame/basswood. The neck also had a slight fret dress. I saw it hanging in GC for $200, so I swiped it for 200 even. I'm not kidding when I tell you it plays and sounds better than all the stock MM's on the wall. I'll probably keep this bass and use it for years.
