On a budget--good amp??

1000 Watts

New member
In March I'll be getting a Job.... I can only keep a little bit each week because the rest goes into my college fund or bank acount... so it will probably take me about 3 months to raise maybe.... $250 or a little less... plus I have to spend money on my girlfriend.....

That have just been said... I'm looking for a cheap amplifier, that is good quality, has about 35 watts or more, doesn't need to be a combo amplifier, and I'd like it to have good sound/tone as well...

All help is appreciated.

Not a head guy myself so others may chime in, but for $250 you might find a Blues Junior or Crate V32. You'd probably have to add a little more to get into the Crate. Also the BJ is only 15 watts, but it's a loud 15. I will only recommend tube stuff because I admit that i am a tube snob 100%. Sorry, but I won't and can't lie about tube amps.

If they're so great, why can't you keep one?:?::question::chairfall

:joke:

Ditch the girlfriend, buy a better amp.:D

Re: On a budget--good amp??

A blues jr. w/ that DS-1 should be a tasty deal! And the way to get more money into the amp and less into the chic is to write her a song and say you wanted it to sound as good as possible.

Another possibility is a Roland Cube or maybe the Vox. They model, have effects, and headphone jacks. I thought you were buyin' a camera dude! You gotta have patience and get your priorities down:
#1 great tone (amp, pups etc...)
#2 girls
#3 camera's

Just some of the many and varied types of advice we offer out here!

Re: On a budget--good amp??

roland cube or vox ad30(?) which are both similar, have effects etc...

Re: On a budget--good amp??

Hughes and Kettner Attax, blue fuzzy kind. If you need reasons why, just listen to my clip of it in the Tips and Clips section.

Re: On a budget--good amp??

I got my '71 Bassman Export head for a cool $300.

It's rough looking, but it sounds fab. :burnout:

Re: On a budget--good amp??

Spending money on your amp is spending money on your girlfriend, because all she wants is for you to be happy!

Re: On a budget--good amp??

the one im selling...marshall mg series 100 watt head...play a song for your girlfriend....really loud and all 'marshall' sounding. built in effects, reverb, two channels...throw a pedal in front and you got a real screamer

Haha. Yeah.. I do need to get my priorities straight.. And I like the order above... but one flaw.. She always comes first.. ;)

I'm getting the '59 in the neck and a Duncan Distortion in the bridge.. And i want to get a better amop. for those pick-ups.. my current amp. isn't all that great.... Thanks everyone. Please keep the advice coming, though.. i love all the input. It really helps. Thank you.

Re: On a budget--good amp??

well i'd say peavey classic 20 (but im not sure how much they cost there)
that or i second the Blues Jr.

Re: On a budget--good amp??

Hughes and Kettner Attax,
Cool amp. It surprised me! :smokin:

Also, Peavey Classic 30 is a nice all-round tube amp. Carvin SX200 is a solid state amp that gets a good variety of decent tones.

Re: On a budget--good amp??

Are the prices on the above to atiquite? Because I searched for some of the other ones, and they were about $200 over my anticipated price...

Re: On a budget--good amp??

Gosh...I almost think anyone who hangs around this place long enough is gonna have GAS for a Blues Jr. :smokin: They get so much good press through this board SD.
