One Armed Bass Player

Re: One Armed Bass Player

I applaud him overcoming his disability, but I'm not sure how his dexterity exercises translate to music? You lose a lot of dynamics without a picking hand and I'm having a hard time imagining what he would sound like playing a real bass line.

Re: One Armed Bass Player

a real bass line.

Define real bass line.

I take your point about conventional bass guitar playing dynamics. The entirely hammer-on and pull-off playing techniques exhibited by Bill Clements would be perfect for touch guitar or Chapman Stick. Long sustained notes rely on finger vibrato and/or distortion effects. The speedy percussive style in the video clip would get tired pretty quickly.

Re: One Armed Bass Player

Bill Clements lives in my town; I've seen his band play a couple of times, and we have worked with a lot of the same musicians. His band does some cool progressive/hard rock/funk/jazz type of thing.
