One for the middle

I've got a ssl6 in the bride and an stk-4 in the neck. Am looking for something in the middle. Not sure of the body but it's a maple neck strat with ebony fretboard.

I'm never really happy with the sound. The ssl6 is good but the stk-4 is too boomy. Have thought about a cool rails somewhere but not sure how it would go in the middle with the 6.

I'm not against selling the stk-4 and replacing both middle and neck.

I like to play blues/classic rock.

you mean the stk s4? classic stack + in the neck right?

thats not very boomy, at least in my guitar. pretty bright and very stratty. i have mine fairly low, is yours very close to the strings?

I've lowered it way down but it's not even with the pickguard.

Sometimes I think my guitar doesn't want to sound great. I don't know enough to know if it's the pots or what. I'm a decent guitar player, not bad/not great, and I don't know enough about it to really get the sound I think I should have.

I'm beginning to see pickups are just part of the story....

if its the stks4 classic stack, the ssl5 is going to be much thicker and boomier.
