One mans trash.......

Hi,
The "Audio In" jack on my First Act MA214 bass amp works fine. However,
Plugging into the "Instrument In" jack yields a hum and no guitar sound.
So,
I'm thinking that the instrument in jack is at fault. If it is the jack can I just replace it with a regular guitar input jack?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: One mans trash.......

Probably not, as it's most likely mounted to a board. I can't imagine First Act amps have point-to-point wiring.

What you can do, however, is check for a loose solder joint where the jack attaches to the board, and reseat it if needed.

Save your money. If you're young and don't have a job, go pick up some bottles and cans or cut some grass, clean rain gutters and gather some money. Here's what looks to be a bass amp. It's in Foley. Only $100. You live within a reasonable proximity of Meridian, MS. There should be tons of Peavey amps for sale near you.

I'm in the dark. I guess the OP has a rather "budget" amp.?
Others have said...it is most likely PCB mounted. SOMETIMES that means it is a (somewhat) proprietary part...but maybe not.
At any rate, "hum" when you plug in sounds like a bad connection to me. You may be able to reflow the solder joints on the existing jack and fix the issue.
If the jack itself is indeed bad, it is probably not "expensive".....but you would have to order one and pay shipping.......10-20 bux sort of.
Certainly worth pulling the chassis and taking a look.
good luck

Re: One mans trash.......

if the effects loop switch on the effects loop jack has gunk on it or
is just an effects loop jack ( I have had this trouble before with brand new amps/jacks )

the preamp wont pass signal to the power amp
the Aux in bypasses the preamp and and the effects loop jacks
goes straight to power amp

if it has an effects loop.....................

oh and I have seen Peavey Bandits used go for under $100
you'll have to order them from GC used , probably New Jersey, they are very cheap in Jersey

Re: One mans trash.......

Well,
I took the amp out of the cab and one of the lugs on the jack was not making connection with the PCB.
Re-soldered and all is well.
Thanks
