This one was the result of desperation.
I managed to get my hands on a very abused mid-70's univox Strat clone.
The body was solid mahogany that was slightly thinner than stock.
It had a schechter setup that included a metal pickguard, toggle switches and two of three single-coils that worked.
I then bought a plastic pickguard, a 5-way switch, and eventually a Duncan single-coil.
The thin body would drive me crazy, the extra cramped space made it impossible to install everything without the cramping that would short out the rig.
I eventually jury-rigged the lead and bridge pickups in series, with the rythym's leads connected as reverse polarized.
No switch.
I fell in love with a humbucking sound that was by pickup position, pretty expanded, I ended up with a sound that was both deeper and brighter than possible with ordinary switching schemes.
A sound that was good for both lead and rythym.
That was late 95.
I eventually gave that away.
You can do it easily enough with three switches to include reverse polarity that won't clash with a Strat's layout.
Otherwise, best of luck.
