One More New Gibson

Empty Pockets

From the same auction I won those basses in. I figure I love my sunburst ES-139 so I'd probably like a black one too.

I feel like I might do something crazy to jazz up the black one, like a Bigsby and some Filtertrons, or some P-Rails or something but I don't know. They sound and play and look awesome as it is. They sound like 335's and they look like giant Les Pauls... which means on my 6'3" frame, they look like normal Les Pauls. There are a bunch available for under a grand right now and I don't know of a better guitar for that kind of money. Most ES- guitars are $2000 and up. Grab one if you can find one... You'll be glad you did.

Re: One More New Gibson

Yeah, those are great guitars, and I like the McCarty-like electronic layout. I almost wanted to get a black one, but ya can't have everything. I'll never understand why they started blowing them out cheaper, and why they didn't sell better??

It's one of the last of the good models. I can't even look at all the 2015's....it makes me sick.

Re: One More New Gibson

I like that.

I'm guessing thats hollow from the ES designation. Is it made like an ES 335 style??

Re: One More New Gibson

Yeahh they're maple laminate semihollows. They have maple necks which makes them a tad brighter than a 335 but the single cutaway design adds lots of lowend too. I like em.

Re: One More New Gibson

I'd have one already if they had 2v, 2t. I already have a 335S from 2013 (1 pup, no f holes) not sure I want to spend the cash for one more pickup.

But congrats, I have handled 3 of those 139s at GC and they all were fantastic.

I love mine. They're every bit as nice as any other ES, but they're all over reverb.com for less than a grand right now. Perfect workhorse guitar. I thought i would miss the traditional Gibson controls, but the streamlined Tele-style controls are not limiting for me.

I have the sunburst one in standard tuning and the black one in drop A# now and they both sound great. I expect to play these two a lot.

It wouldn't be that difficult to enlarge the control cavity and add another vol and tone control.
