One of my latest builds

I decided to make a LP that is a bit thinner and chambered to make it light. Total weight with all hardware = 6lb 10oz.
The first pic is my plan for the chambers and routing. I custom mixed a Gretsch orange (a little darker than their typical light orange). The body is solid mahogany, chambered, and with belly cut. The top is 1/2" thick maple carved to 1/4" at the edges. Maple binding. I made a compensated bone nut. I decided to use a trapeze tailpiece to give a longer total string length to decrease tension on the strings. The pics show gold foil pups, but I have since removed them to put in another guitar. Controls: neck volume; bridge vol with p/p for series/split; master tone; built in overdrive; tone bypass switch.

The guitar is very resonant, awesome tone, and a joy to play.

Re: One of my latest builds

I like the Gretsch vibe it has going on. What pickups do you plan on putting in it?

Re: One of my latest builds

You did a good job, except.... for the cheapo tailpiece. There are much better units out there, or with your skills - you could fab one up. It's not too late to upgrade it. Good luck.

Re: One of my latest builds

I like it, it has its own vibe and doesn’t follow the crowd. Great job.

Re: One of my latest builds

You keeping the gold foils in there?
Edit: Nevermind. Read the original post again.

Nice guitar. The knob layout is a bit strange, isn't it?

I would really love to see a trem like a bigsby on that. Adds additional weight, um?

The knob layout is like the Dean Shire or Colt

I like it

Piezo bridge ?

Awesome , so why no F holes

Re: One of my latest builds

I think it looks great just as it is. Controls are obviously laid out how he wanted them and that's all that really matters. Nice job Doc, and I love the orange too!

I find no problem with the tailpiece...it does what I want it to do and it sounds great.

Or GIVEN all of that - maybe that tailpiece is EXACTLY what he wanted....

The knob layout is different on just about every guitar I make, but it works for me.

Yeah, I love the vibe of a Bigsby but too heavy. I wanted to keep this light. An exception is the Planet Waves locking tuners...very heavy but I love the function and aesthetics of them.

Thanks Jeff.

It took me nearly a month to mix just the right orange that I had in my head. Gretsch has a couple different oranges on their guitars. I almost decided to mix their darker orange (very beautiful) but it looked a bit too heavy for a small bodied LP.
